Fort Fisher is a beautiful historical area that sits along the southern edge of our coastline here in North Carolina. This was the last stronghold for the Southern Confederacy during the Civil War and remains a historical landmark for our country. There is an amazing view of the Lower Cape Fear River, a place to drive on the beach, and an amazing visitor center to learn more about the significance of Fort Fisher. Kure Beach:
Kure Beach is a 6-mile stretch of shoreline between Fort Fisher to the south and Carolina Beach to the North. It is a small, quiet, and quaint beach town that has a ton of character. If you're looking for a less touristy and quieter beach to visit, Kure Beach is a great option. Kure Beach is also home to a Coquina rock formation that only exists in this portion of North Carolina. Coquina is a rock formation consisting of seashells and coral cemented together originating anywhere from 12,000 to 80,000 years ago.
