Sight Fishing the Pamlico Sound

The Pamlico sounds has always been a renowned fishery for speckled trout, large trophy redfish, and stripers.  I have fished the pamlico on several occasions. I am typically blind casting a variety of artificial baits in large open water along deeper banks for trout and stripers. Captain Kyle Elliot of (https://www.fish2film.com/) is a North Carolina native that is dialed into targeting redfish in shallow water on the pamilico sound.  He has spent decades fishing the sound learning where these fish live and how to target them.  Captain Judson Brock of Eastern Angling (https://www.easternangling.com/) and myself had the opportunity to fish with kyle and we were both blown away by the fishery. The marsh is a vast ecosystem full of perfect redfish habitat and plenty of shallow water fishing opportunities. There is an abundance of coves, points, pockets, and canals making for excellent sight fishing.  We primarily targeted fish on shallow sandy bottom flats where there was plenty of grass.  Where we found shallow water with grass, we found bait, and where we found bait, we found redfish. Despite what many may think, the water this time of year can be gin clear in the pamlico. It was not uncommon to see areas of water with six feet of visibility.

Kyle was dialed in this area showing us spot after spot chalked full of redfish. Gin clear, shallow water with aggressive happy redfish is the ultimate sightfishing opportunity. Captain Kyle Elliot is an excellent captain with tons of knowledge and experience on the pamlico sound. Give him a call next time your are looking to fish the pamlico area.
